When one enters Warsaw, Poland, it looks much like any other Medieval city with the scattered collection of modern buildings interspersed among the old.  But everything is not as it seems. The historic center of Warsaw is an exception on UNESCO’s World Cultural Heritage List. It’s the only urban complex almost entirely rebuilt after WWII.

The view of Poland as a non-tourist oriented nation is gradually changing, since the country is attracting an increasing number of foreign tourists.

“The Chronicles of Narnia Prince Caspian” movie, based on the series of novels written by C.S. Lewis, was partly filmed in Poland. The locations used as filmsets included the National Park of Table Mountains and the Karkonoski National Park, both in South-Western Poland.  So if you have seen the movie, you already have some idea of the scenery that awaits the visitor.

Warsaw is Poland’s capital and the largest city with the usual mix of night life, historic buildings and museums.  Check out the Historical Museum of Warsaw which documents the entire history of Warsaw with maps, historic documents, photos and paintings.

In the northern part of Poland, the Pomeranian and Mazurian Lakelands are the home of many lakes set among picturesque hills and beautiful forests. Farther north are the sandy beaches of the Baltic Sea coast.

With deep snows falls, the Polish Mountains offer conditions for winter sports in January, February and March.

This article only skims the surface of what there is to see and do in Poland.
