Is there a hotel inside the Alhambra?
The Alhambra in Granada, Spain is a magnificent complex of palaces and gardens created for the medieval rulers of Andalucia. You might not expect to book a hotel room in one of theĀ ancient buildings of this exceptional “world heritage” site, where visitor numbers are strictly controlled. And yet you can.
Spain has a national network of special “parador” hotels. From Barcelona down to the southern Costa del Sol, there are castles, palaces, convents and other unique buildings where visitors are welcome. The rooms are full of character and there is always a restaurant with good Spanish cooking, featuring local specialities.
At some paradores prices are quite reasonable but this one is more expensive than most. Tourists will pay well to stay in a hilltop 15th century monastery just yards from the world-famous Nasrid palaces.
After a day exploring “medieval Spain” in the beautiful palaces or the nearby city, hotel residents can relax in its peaceful inner courtyard or sit on the terrace, sampling Andalusian gazpacho, while enjoying views across the Alhambra hill. Panoramic views of the ancient city of Granada, and the mountains of the Sierra Nevada, are just a short stroll away.
