How do you grow roses?
Roses are the undisputed favorite of growers and flower buyers alike.
A properly maintained and cared for rose garden will produce blooms from spring until frost. However, it is the ‘maintainence’ that keeps many people away from growing this flower.
Well, I have a surprise, growing roses is easy. A sunny location and a few gardening basics is all you need.
Just give roses the 4 basic elements – earth, water, air and fire.
Earth – Best for rose growing are soils with good drainage. When improving the soil through the use of soil amendments, don’t forget to promote drainage by incorporating peat moss
Water – Watering requirements vary according to rain amounts. But on the average, water rose bushes twice a week, and water them thoroughly. Avoid late-evening watering, which could lead to powdery mildew.
Air – Growing roses in crowded conditions where adequate spacing is not provided can lead to powdery mildew, as well. Allow your roses to breathe. Don’t plant them too close together.
Fire – Roses like at least 6 hours of sun a day. Morning sun is better.
Those basics will take care of most any kind of rose you want to grow.
