Why vacation in Kentucky?
I guess when you read “Welcome to The Bluegrass State” that pretty much says it all. Kentuckians certainly do make you feel welcome.
Tourism in Kentucky can take many forms, including a new phenomenon known as Agritourism, with roadside stands and farmers’ markets offering farm-fresh produce and the opportunity to meet the people who grow the food. And there are more than 700 festivals and events which showcase Kentucky’s productivity.
With a wealth of outdoor activities, Kentucky is a playground for fresh air enthusiasts. From caving, hiking and water sports to rock climbing, Kentucky is an adventure waiting to happen. With much of the country being taken over by suburban sprawl, it is nice to find such a large part of Kentucky still in its natural state.
If you prefer the city, check out the largest city in Kentucky, Louisville. It has all the amenities of a large city with great restaurants, museums and other attractions. And one cannot forget, the Kentucky Derby, and the festival which surrounds it. The J.B. Speed Museum has pictures by Rembrandt, Rubens, Picasso and Monet, and the Harlan Sanders Museum, dedicated to the founder of Kentucky Fried Chicken, and the Louisville Slugger Museum, devoted entirely to baseball, are thoroughly enjoyable.
And one should not miss Mammoth Cave National Park. With over 300 miles of passages so far surveyed, Mammoth Cave is one of the world’s largest known cave systems, and was already known to the Indian inhabitants of the area in the1st millennium BC.
And of course, the area that gave the state its nickname, the Bluegrass Region. The scenery is great and there are horses everywhere. The Bluegrass is filled with experiences for every member of your family.
Kentucky’s roads lead to some of the country’s most unique destinations. Travel a state marked by gentle rolling hills, champion-producing horse farms, and miles of natural marvels. You can’t go wrong in Kentucky.
