The 2010 Winter Olympic Games will be hosted by the City of Vancouver and the Resort Municipality of Whistler, British Columbia, Canada, from February 12-28 and March 12-2.

Vancouver, with its spectacular natural beauty, is located in the southwest corner of Canada, bordered to the west by the Pacific Ocean, the south by the United States, and the west by the Rocky Mountains. The city, the largest in British Columbia, is 114 sq km with a population of about 600,00 people and is considered to be one of the top Canadian cities to visit and live in. Half of the residents’ first language is English and one-quarter of the residents’ first language is Chinese.

The Resort Municipality of Whistler comprises an area of 12,630 hectares (about 31,000 acres). The population of about 10,000 permanent residents nearly triples daily with visitors and employees. Whistler will be home to the Nordic, sliding and alpine sports. The Nordic and sliding events will be held in Whistler Olympic Park (biathlon, cross-country skiing, Nordic combined and ski jumping events) and The Whistler Sliding Centre (host bobsleigh, luge and skeleton events).

Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains, with a top elevation of 2,284 metres (7,494′), offer the highest lift-serviced vertical in North America.
