What is the London eye?
The London Eye (also known as the Millennium Wheel) with a height of 443 ft, is the biggest Ferris wheel in Europe. It is also the most popular paid tourist attraction in the United Kingdom.
The wheel was designed by architects David Marks, Julia Barfield, Malcolm Cook, Mark Sparrowhawk, Steve Chilton and Nic Bailey. There are 32 air-conditioned passenger cabins each holding about 24 people. The number of cabins matches the number of London Boroughs. Riders are free to walk around in the cabin or remain seated. One revolution takes about 30 minutes. The wheel does not stop to take on or let off passengers. The rotation rate is so slow that they can walk on and off the moving capsules at ground level. However, they do stop it to allow disabled or elderly passengers time to board or leave safely.
In 2008 announcement came that 30 million people had ridden the London Eye since its opening in 2000.
Fantastic views.
