Bob Geldof and Paula Yates were never the most conventional couple, but they certainly raised eyebrows when they named their 1983 baby Fifi Trixibelle Geldof.

They upped the ante in 1989 by naming their second daughter Peaches Honeyblossom Michelle Charlotte Angel Vanessa Geldof. What a mouthful! Their third daughter escaped relatively lightly, being named Little Pixie Geldof.

Why such unusual names? Well, Bob Geldof is no stranger to unusual names, with one of his middle names being Zenon.

Or were the children’s names the idea of Paula Yates? After Bob Geldof and Paula Yates split, Yates had another daughter with Michael Hutchence. They named their daughter Heavenly Hiraani Tiger Lily Hutchence.

As fate would have it, both Hutchence and Yates died and Geldof adopted Heavenly Hiraani Tiger Lily Hutchence, changing her name to … wait for it … Heavenly Hiraani Tiger Lily Hutchence Geldof. Life’s never easy when you’re the child of a celebrity!

When Bob Geldof had another daughter in 2005 with his new partner, no-one was too surprised when they named the new baby Luscious Tropical Mango Geldof.

Soon after, Peaches Geldof complained publicly about her own name. She urged celebrities not to give their kids stupid names, saying:

I hate ridiculous names, my weird name has haunted me all my life. I hate being famous; people claim to know me because of my surname.

By 2008 though, Peaches had changed her mind, saying:

It haunted me in my youth, but now I like it. I always got teased about it at primary school, being named after a fruit. Now people find it appealing. I like my name. I think it’s sexy and unusual.

Nevertheless, she had already persuaded Bob Geldof to have a change of heart. He decided to give the name April to Luscious Geldof, so that she could be known informally as April Geldof. Her full legal name is now Luscious Tropical Mango April Fool Geldof.

PS: This article was original posted on April Fools Day 2009. As far as I know, it’s all true except for Luscious Tropical Mango April Fool Geldof. There was no 2005 daughter.
