Windhoek is the capital of the Republic of Namibia and the country’s largest city.

The city is very clean and still has a strong German presence. In fact, the city center is characterised by a proliferation of German style buildings, a lasting reminder of Namibia’s early colonial history. There are German restaurants where one can have traditional German dishes and even celebrate the German carnival. Although English is the official language, one can use German just about anywhere. The city center of Windhoek is on both sides of the Independence Avenue, and since Windhoek is a fairly safe city at least in the center, can be explored by foot. There are arcades and a small shopping centers in in this section of town. Between them you can find pretty much anything you need. Night life in the city is limited to a few restaurants and a couple of night clubs.
Windhoek is situated in a semi-desert region. Days are usually warm to hot, varying from a maximum of 20 C (68 F) in July to 31 C (88 F) in January.
Windhoek is served by Windhoek Hosea Kutako International Airport. Public transportation is non existant but there are private taxis.
