What is Baltimore city profile?

Baltimore is the largest city in the state of Maryland.

Baltimore was founded in 1729, and is named after Lord Baltimore who was the first Governor of the Province of Maryland. Baltimore played a major role in events leading up to, and including, the American Revolution. On February 7, 1904 the Great Baltimore Fire forced most of the city to rebuild.

Baltimore is a city that is constantly evolving and growing. Today, the city orients around the original port and inner harbor area.  The Inner Harbor is now the city’s main tourist destination with such attractions as the National Aquarium, Maryland Science Center and Port Discovery Children’s Museum. The surrounding neighborhoods also offer many interesting landmarks, shops and restaurants. Wander around Fells Point, the oldest section of Baltimore, it reminds one of an old English village, complete with pubs and cobblestone streets. Baltimore is also known for its African-American heritage sites, plus festivals and cultural events that take place throughout the year. In fact, Baltimoreans organize more than a hundred such events each year.

Baltimore has a large number of great restaurants, with a wide array of cuisines, plus every ethnic menu you can think of. Topping it all off is their own world-famous Chesapeake Bay sea-food. And a good nightlife scene too. Baltimore isn’t the biggest shopping town, but it does have some malls and some good stores here and there. Some good shops can be found along Charles Street in Mount Vernon and also along Thames Street in Fells Point.

Baltimore has a very bad reputation for crime. The reputation is deserved, but the average traveler should not get overly concerned. Those areas of Baltimore that attract tourists are very safe and full of police day and night.

July is the hottest month of the year, with an average high temperature of 91 F (32 C) and an average low of 73 F (22 C). January is the coldest month, with an average high of 44 F (6 °C) and an average low of 29 F (-1 °C).

Baltimore is served by Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport.  Public transportation is bus, light rail, subway and taxi.
